FILM SHOWING – Bring Your OWN FILM CLUB

My experimental short documentary – ‘Good Boys’, is to feature in next weeks Bring Your Own FIlm (BYOF) Club night in Dublin. BYOF an initiative which began in January of this year, brings together shorts from emerging Dublin filmmakers, each introduced by the filmmakers themselves.

I love intimate screenings like this one. Anything which promotes strong new work – especially work created outside of the clutches of the Irish funding system – is a good thing. I’m especially gratified to be screening ‘Good Boys’, one of my favourite pieces of video work. The films contentious material – it earnestly explores expressions of masculinity, attitudes to sex, romance and dating – has made it tough to place in an increasingly censorious and homogenous festival environment. None the less I think making work which speaks to mens concerns, fixations, qualities and failings, is vital right now.

Another experimental doc ‘Benediction‘ was screened in April as part of a multi-diciplinary evening of poetry and experimental film at The Art Shelter. The event was beautifully run and curated, featuring a panel I was lucky enough to participate in. The panel, compared by Blue Niall, explored themes of home, migration and personal history.

Good Boys is screening is next Friday 19.06.26 at Dublin Business School, from 6:30PM.
