Sightless Cinema Documentary

Two years ago I remigrated from Berlin with three months severance and no work lined up. Ciaran Taylor offered to hire me to film some of the upcoming Sightless Cinema shows, ten years after I first reported on, then helped sound engineer some of their first productions.

On the 6th August, 11.15PM on RTE1 the resulting film screens for the first time. It tells the story of some of the inspiring and delightful blind people who came together to form the Sightless Cinema network; how they lost their sight and found themselves through radio drama. Members of the group candidly discuss their sight loss and how their lives have been shaped by blindness. We watch their creative process in action. As Sightless Cinema turn their lived experiences of blindness into compelling audio theatre.

This is my first TV broadcast credit as Director / DOP and it wouldn’t have been possible without Ciaran’s trust and efforts, the lovely Johnny Farrelly’s guidance and above all the kindness and trust of the wonderful people of sightless cinema.

I’d especially like to thank the incredible Steve Wickham (yes that Steve Wickham) who created the films soundtrack, with the exception of one track by the mighty Derek Byrne.
